Visualization of movies - Part I

In the last couple of months I saw a couple visualizations, that rendered the color usage in movies. For every couple of frames a horizontal line was shown, which over the complete duration of the movie, shows the general color usage in that movie.

I was wondering how hard that would be to do, so I created a simple setup where I stored the output from Boblight, when playing a movie on XBMC, in a file. The resulting file contained the average color (might need to tune the saturation), 24 times per second, for the complete movie. I've now started playing around a bit with the results a bit and liked to share them.
